Every year, many people with disabilities are killed by their parents and caregivers. In the past six years alone, over 650 people with disabilities have lost their lives in this manner.
The Disability Community Day of Mourning is a yearly "holiday" set aside to mourn the lives lost in these tragic murders and to combat the widespread belief that people with disabilities are burdens whose lives are not worth living.
