Community Care Skill Shares are open to everyone (whether you identify as disabled, nondisabled, or somewhere between).
Build your skills all semester long!
This is a series of workshops led by Paloma Araujo, a DCC student worker and Community Care Cohort Intern. In each workshop, we will learn new skills that will build on each other towards our final project to crochet your own study buddy!
What does crochet have to do with disability?
Crochet is not only a creative and relaxing hobby; it can also be a form of documentation, meaning-making, and a way to build community and care for one another.

In-person: The DCC will provide the supplies, including accessibility tools like crochet rings, hook grips, and stitch markers.
On Zoom: Bring whatever tools and supplies you have! We recommend a 5mm crochet hook, colorful yarn, scissors, and a yarn needle. The link is https://go.uic.edu/DCCZoom
Covid safety: UIC does not require masking, but we are continuing to mask indoors as an accessibility measure for sick/immunocompromised folks and those living interdependently with them. Please wear a mask if it’s accessible for you! We’ll have extras on hand.
