Join the UIC Arab American Cultural Center and the UIC Disability Cultural Center for a workshop to learn basic words and phrases in Palestinian Sign Language, the native sign language used by the Palestinian deaf community! Follow along with lessons designed by deaf Palestinians Nesma Kreyyem and Noor Mohammed, and presented by Grace Lester, a deaf Chicago-based activist. Learn about language preservation in the midst of genocide and cultural erasure, and how access and resistance are necessarily intertwined.

Audience note: This event is open to everyone.

Covid safety: UIC does not require masking, but we encourage masking as an accessibility measure for chronically ill / immunocompromised folks. If it’s accessible to you, please wear a mask! We’ll have extras on hand. Zoom is another Covid-cautious option.

Access Information: The Arab American Cultural Center is located on the 1st floor. ASL will be provided in person and connected to the Zoom via camera, and we will have auto-captions. UIC is not a fragrance-free campus, but please refrain from wearing scents to maintain a low-fragrance environment. Let us know about any other access requests at dcc@uic.edu or 312-355-7050.

Flyer ID: A brown flyer with DCC and Arab American Cultural Center logos, a line drawing of a pomegranate, and fingerspelling hands in a border along the bottom, each hand with an Arabic letter next to it.
