Need a break?

We are all metabolizing a lot of change and uncertainty, and for those of us nearing the end of the semester, it's an intense time.

Join us for the second of two end-of-semester community sessions!

Slow Breath & Stretch is 90-minute, body positive, accessible movement session led by Rise of Riotous Roots. Think contemporary dance meets non-commercialized restorative yoga!

This session will be conducted in person at the DCC and we have limited space! Please be sure to RSVP below. We will also have a Zoom option!

All are welcome (students, faculty/staff, community members). Come as you are.

Covid safety: UIC does not require masking, but we are still masking in our spaces as an act of community care and an accessibility measure for chronically ill and immunocompromised people. Please wear a mask if it's accessible to you. We'll have extras on hand!

Access info: We will have CART captions for this session, and Rise's practice centers accessibility and adaptation. Feel free to let us know about any access questions or concerns at dcc@uic.edu and we can pass them along to Rise!

Rise | Riotous Roots

My pronouns are they/them. I am a fat Black, queer, disabled, genderfluid person existing on occupied Pottawatomi land (present day Chicago). I am a visual artist, poet, full spectrum (birth/postpartum/grief & loss/abortion) birthworker, yoga teacher, meditation facilitator, gender affirming and trauma informed care and disability justice educator, access consultant and community care worker. I am deeply invested in disability justice, access, centering wellness for Black queer folk, trauma education, and rest. When not doing the most, I enjoy daydreaming, dancing, and hanging with their support pup, Jelly Ferocious. I started my practice, business Riotous Roots, as a means to house my talents, passions and dreams for my communities in one place. You can learn more about them at www.riotousroots.com or @riotous_roots on or @covidcautious_careworkers on Instagram.
