Join us in celebration of National (and International) Week of Deaf People! We are delighted to welcome Deaf educator Marcos Aguilar for a Deaf culture installment of our series, Unlearning Ableism: DCC Discussions. How can we begin unlearning audism? What is audism, and what are some things we should understand about Deaf culture?

About the presenter:

Marcos Aguilar (he/him), an avid adventurer, hails from Ecuador and moved to the United States around the age of seven. His thirst for knowledge is reflected in his educational pursuits, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and a Master's in Sign Language Education (MASLED) from Gallaudet University. Spending around four to five years in Ecuador, he played a pivotal role in establishing the nation's inaugural Sign Language dictionary, demonstrating his commitment to enhancing the lives of Deaf communities.
Presently, Marcos Aguilar instructs American Sign Language (ASL) at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois, continuing his mission to uplift the quality of life within Deaf communities through education.
