We’re grateful to our partners Bodies of Work for the photographs of disability arts and culture happenings they’ve provided for our space.
Bodies of Work Exhibit
-
Disabled dancer Alice Shepherd and a partner performing at the yearly integrated dance show Counterbalance, which features dancers with and without disabilities.
-
Disabled artist Riva Lehrer, former 3Arts/Bodies of Work Resident Artist giving a talk entitled "Beauty in Exile." The talk is in part a memoir of sexual identity, and in part an examination of the societal wall that separates the disabled from inclusion in corporeal delight. Images will be shown from the history of Lehrer's art, which strives to uncover the glamour inherent in non-normative bodies.
-
Disabled Artists and Activists Riva Lehrer, Carrie Sandahl, Liz Carr and another woman in active discussion.
-
Award Winning disabled poet Lynn Manning performing at Noche de Poetas (Poetry Night): Disability Poetics, Bodies, Language and the Word, at the Latino Cultural Center. Manning's work challenges the intersections of race and disability. Originally a visual artist he became blind at the age of 23 and began painting with words.
-
Disabled poet Maria Palacios, from the Disability Arts Performance organization Sins Invalid, performs one of her poems.
-
Disabled dancer Ginger Lane, a member of Momenta Dance Company, performs an integrated dance piece with a partner.
-
